Hi there, PegasusSeiya351. [waves] It's the "top six anime characters I strongly relate to" meme. Only I knocked it down to four due to lack of a fifth and sixth.
4) Anthy Himemiya from the "Shoujo Kakumei Utena/Revolutionary Girl Utena" franchise.
Voiced by Yuriko Fuchizaki and Sharon Becker.
While I'm very fortunate to not belong in an abusive family like Anthy did, I still understand her learned helplessness and feelings of being utterly powerless in what direction her life takes, due to the mental issues that give me so many hangups. It takes a dramatic shake-up and lots of help from Utena before Anthy can escape her gilded prison and function as an adult, and I'm beginning to wonder if something similar is what it'll take for me to be able to break my own world's shell and make a new one. I kinda hope so, but I also kinda hope not; I wouldn't want my friends to end up the way Utena did, 'cause a life without 'em isn't a life I want.
3) Princess Nausicaa from "Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa/Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind."
Voiced by Sumi Shimamoto and Alison Lohman.
An intelligent, compassionate, forward-thinking young woman who knows her solutions aren't perfect, and in the manga she winds up having to make a lot of hard decisions for the sake of her people. But she wants to find the best-working balance between the toxic jungles and her home, and preserve the animal and human life in both. I desperately want the wild green places left in a sustainable way, but with the continued population explosion, I'm not sure that's possible. But like Nausicaa, I know how precious the balance of nature is, so I relate to her struggles in ecological matters.
2) Bronze Saint Andromeda Shun of the "Saint Seiya" franchise. (I'm betting this won't surprise you, PegasusSeiya.)
Voiced by: Ryo Horikawa, Yuuta Kasuya, Hiroshi Kamiya, Nobuhiko Okamoto, and Chris Patton.
Shun is one of those guys who genuinely wouldn't wish ill fortune on his worst enemy. He's a gentle soul who is often forced to use violence he abhors in order to protect the world, because sadly, not everyone wants to talk out solutions. I relate to Shun because I really don't like hurting people's feelings, or confrontation, and I would prefer to settle things tactfully. Problem is, I don't always know how. So sometimes shite goes down, and I regret it.
1) Locke the Superman of "Choujin Locke." (This should not surprise aaaaanyone who knows me.)
Voiced by: Nobuo Tobita, Kenichi Suzumura, Keiichi Nanba, Kotani Tetsu, Jesus Barrero (who also voiced Pegasus Seiya in the Latin American dub of "Saint Seiya"), and unknown English voice actor, possibly B.J. Ward.
Locke's the kind of person I wanna be. He keeps getting dragged into the affairs of the universe because he's one of the only people who can fix the issues put in front of him, and he wants to do the right thing, but he also wants a nice, quiet life on his terms. I can relate to that; I'd like to help the world in good, tangible ways, but there's only so much I can do, and the part about a nice, quiet life on my terms is really appealing. So I understand Locke's feelings about much of this.
